Luck (German Glück, etymology: Middle English lucke, from Middle Dutch luc; akin to Middle High German gelücke; 1a: force that brings good fortune or adversity; b:the events or circum- stances that operate for or against an individual;
 
with one's life (glücklich sein = to be happy). In an era of late capitalism - such as the one we currently live in - the possession of money in not inconsiderable amounts seems to be a deter- minating factor of a personal state of happiness.
